Dear Journal,

Today was one of those days that just made me feel so lucky to have Roman and Sochi by my side. It started off as a regular morning, but I decided to do something special for us—take a little adventure out to the lake. The weather was perfect: sunny with just enough of a breeze to keep it comfortable, and I knew Roman and Sochi would love it.

We packed up our things and headed out, Roman perched proudly in his little car seat and Sochi peeking out the window, her ears flapping in the wind. I couldn’t help but smile watching them, both so excited for whatever the day would bring. When we got to the lake, everything was so vibrant—the deep blue water, the tall green trees swaying gently, and the cheerful sound of birds echoing all around.

We started our walk along the trail that circles the lake. Roman, with his tiny legs, trotted beside me like he owned the place, while Sochi darted ahead, curious about every rock and bush she came across. I love watching their different personalities shine when we’re out—Roman, always a bit cautious, taking his time to sniff and observe, while Sochi is all energy, bouncing around like every new sight is the most exciting thing in the world.

We took a break at a little bench that overlooked the lake, and I let them both sit on my lap. The view was stunning, with the sun sparkling off the water’s surface. Roman leaned against me, his eyes half-closed, soaking in the warmth, while Sochi sat alert, watching a duck paddle by in the distance. Moments like this are what I live for—where everything feels calm and simple, and it’s just me and my two best friends enjoying the day.

As we continued our walk, we came across some families having picnics, kids running around, and even a couple of other dogs that Roman and Sochi were eager to meet. Sochi, of course, wasted no time making friends, her tail wagging at full speed. Roman took a bit more convincing but eventually warmed up, giving a few polite sniffs before returning to my side. It always warms my heart to see them interacting and having fun.

After we had our fill of the lake, I decided to make one last stop—an ice cream stand I knew was dog-friendly. I got myself a cone, and, of course, a little cup of vanilla for Roman and Sochi to share. Watching them eagerly lick at the ice cream, their faces covered in little bits of it, I couldn’t stop laughing. Sochi was determined to eat as much as she could, while Roman was content taking his time, savoring each lick. It was the perfect way to end an already wonderful day.

By the time we got home, they were both happily exhausted, curled up together on the couch, their bellies full and their little paws tired from all the exploring. I sat down beside them, feeling this overwhelming sense of peace. Today wasn’t anything grand or elaborate, but it was perfect in its simplicity. Just me, Roman, Sochi, and a beautiful day at the lake. I wouldn’t trade these moments for anything.

Until next time,

S.W.
