A Day Out with Roman and Sochi at the Pet Store
These Two Are A Mess!

Hey everyone! Shay W. here, and I’ve got a funny story to share about my latest adventure with Roman the Chihuahua and Sochi the Shorkie. If you’ve ever taken two small, very opinionated dogs to the pet store, you probably know just how entertaining (and chaotic) it can be. Well, Roman and Sochi certainly didn’t disappoint—they were in rare form, barking at everything that moved and making friends left and right!
The Excitement Begins
As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, both Roman and Sochi knew exactly where we were. The excitement was immediate—Roman was bouncing up and down in his car seat, and Sochi was doing her little happy dance, paws tapping in anticipation. The moment we walked through the automatic doors, they both let out a few loud barks to announce their arrival. I swear, they were acting like they owned the place!
Meeting New Friends
It didn’t take long before Roman and Sochi found some new puppy friends. There was a friendly Golden Retriever puppy, who was about four times the size of Roman but just as playful. Roman, in typical Chihuahua fashion, was completely fearless, running right up to the Golden Retriever and giving a series of yappy barks as if to say, “Hey, I’m in charge here!” The Golden Retriever just wagged his tail and gave Roman a big slobbery kiss on the head, which made Sochi bark even louder—probably out of jealousy!
Sochi also made friends with a tiny Dachshund named Milo. They had an adorable little sniffing session before they both started wagging their tails and hopping around like they were old pals. Seeing Sochi and Milo playing together was one of the cutest moments of the day—two small pups just having the time of their lives in the middle of the pet store aisle.
Barking at Everyone
Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to the pet store without Roman barking at every single person who walked by. He’s got this attitude that says, “I need to inspect everyone to make sure they’re okay!” Whether it was a family shopping for dog toys or an employee restocking the shelves, Roman had something to say to each of them. Thankfully, most people found his yappy greetings amusing, and a few even stopped to give him a scratch behind the ears.
Sochi, not wanting to be left out, joined in with her own little barks—though hers were a bit more polite. It was like she was backing up Roman, making sure everyone knew they were on patrol together. At one point, Roman barked at a guy carrying a bag of dog food, and Sochi decided to do the same. The man laughed and said, “I guess they don’t approve of my choice!” I had to assure him that they bark at everything—it’s nothing personal!
The Treat Aisle Adventure
We eventually made our way to the treat aisle, which was, of course, their favorite part of the trip. Roman immediately started sniffing the lower shelves, probably trying to figure out how to get into the bags of treats. Sochi, on the other hand, was laser-focused on a display of chew sticks that were just out of her reach. I ended up picking out a few different treats for them, but not before Roman let out a bark that echoed down the aisle, as if to say, “Hurry up, Mom, we need those snacks!”
After picking up the treats, we headed to the toy section. Sochi found a squeaky toy that she immediately fell in love with, while Roman seemed more interested in trying to chew on a plush toy that was about as big as he was. I ended up getting them each a new toy—Sochi got her squeaky, and Roman got a smaller, more manageable plush toy that he could actually carry.
Heading Home
By the time we made it to the checkout, Roman and Sochi were both exhausted but still managing to bark at anyone who dared look in their direction. The cashier couldn’t stop laughing as Sochi tried to climb onto the counter to see what was happening with her treats. Once we finally made it back to the car, both dogs settled down—completely worn out from all the excitement. It didn’t take long before they were both snoozing on the way home, tired from their big day of barking, sniffing, and making friends.
It was definitely one of those days that reminds me why I love having these two in my life. They may be small, but they have the biggest personalities, and they always manage to turn even the simplest outing into a memorable adventure. Here’s to many more goofy trips to the pet store with Roman and Sochi!
Thanks for reading, and give your pups an extra treat today!
